Well, it was a good birthday weekend.
I went and bought myself a new phone. I got the new MOTOKRZR (RED). I love the design. I love that Motorola donates to African AIDS charities every time they sell one. I love the interface… but I haven’t really played with it a lot yet…
On Thursday night, Smokey, Chiara, the wifey and I went to the White Stripes show at the Molson Amphitheatre. I think this years show was even better than last year. They played 5 tunes from the new album, which was rawkin’. This band is so good live. They’re a real fans band.
On Friday night, Tanya and I met my buddy Brad and his girl Kim at the Opal Jazz Lounge on Queen Street for Summerlicious. A good three-piece jazz band (guitar, sax, bass) played while we ate. The food was good, but portions were a little small (I had a cucumber-tomato salad, pork tenderloin, and pistachio meringue).
On Saturday, Tanya and I drove out to Burlington, exchanged our shitty cable/DVR box for a new one, went to Arbys for lunch, then drove out to The Burlington Dutch Store where I bought a few bags of Redband Winegums - my total favourite candy. Redband winegums are totally difficult to get, and I’d previously been buying them from a store in Oakville which charged around $30 a bag. I got ‘em for $12.50 per bag in Burlington. My new favourite store.
Saturday night, we ordered UFC 73: Stacked. I got to watch my favourite fighter Anderson Silva destroy over-confident Nate Marquart in a pretty one-sided affair. Sean Sherk also defended his title without too much difficulty. Tito Ortiz fought Rashad Evans, and Tito would have won if not for being a chump. He was penalized a point by Big John McCarthy for holding the fence multiple times. Tito also repeatedly grabbed Rashad’s shorts, hit Rashad in the nuts, headbutted Rashad and generally did everything he could to cheat. The fight was called a draw due to Tito’s lameness. The Nogueira vs. Herring fight was crazy. Nogueira won, but he’s lucky he had Yves Lavigne as referee. Nogueira got rocked by a really nice head kick, and was essentially out… yet Lavigne let the fight continue, Nogueira recovered, came back and won the decision. If Big John had been reffing, I think Herring would have been the winner.
Finally, went to see Evan Almighty last night. (Wanted to see Knocked Up, but timing was off). Evan Almighty was pretty good. Plot holes the size of elephants, but still enjoyable. There’s something about Steve Carrell that’s just naturally likeable.
All in all, a good 36th.
